Continue ReadingSix-foot-3 Beulah forward Reece Hoherz was the worker piece for the ECI Selects squad this year and now he’ll take to his senior year as one of Class B’s most versatile players.
ECI Selects won 19 games this season and it was a great experience for Hoherz.
“I had a blast this summer traveling around the Midwest and playing basketball with some really good friends,” Reece stated. “I improved my game by getting in the gym/weight room as much as I could and most importantly learning from Coach Nagel.
“Andy Nagel is an awesome coach that knows the game better than anyone I know. He is one of the main reasons why I developed into the player I am today.”
Beulah had an excellent run a year ago and has bigger plans this winter.
“Last year we fell short in the region championship to Dickinson Trinity. So our ultimate goal this season is to make it back to the region championship and win it then make it to the state tournament.
“After that we would then focus our goal on winning the state championship. We graduated five key seniors last year but if we want to be successful this season we need to really connect as a team and all have the same goal. If we do that, we’ll be a tough team to stop.”
Hoherz was next asked about his own success as a junior. Reece had several memorable games.
“My top moments came in the region championship against Dickinson Trinity,” Hoherz stated. “Even though it didn’t turn out the way we want, the atmosphere of that type of game will stick with you forever.
“Last season I averaged around 11 points, four rebounds, and six assists per game. I understood that I didn’t have to score 20 points a game to be able to win. I focused on going out there and providing the spark for my team and doing what I needed in order to win each ball game.”
Like many athletic standouts in North Dakota, Reece is an excellent football and basketball standout.
“I have had a few colleges interested in me for basketball but I have had more schools interested in me for football,” said Reece. “I have decided that I will succeed better at college football so that is what I’m going to do in college is play football.
“Right now Minnesota State University Morehead (MSUM) is the school of my top interest. I’ve also been talking to U of Mary, Dickinson State, Valley City, Concordia Moorhead, and a little from Jamestown and Bemidji State. I have also received an offer from Minot State. (All for football).”
The Hoherz football recruiting steam is in a thick spot right now with several schools chasing him.
“I have already visited MSUM and Valley City this past month. I have visits scheduled with Dickinson State and U of Mary later this fall that I am looking forward to. I would like to visit MSUM and U of Mary one more time later this winter and make my decision after those visits.”
