After a year away from basketball, he has taken over the program at Perry, a program that has struggled to find an identity sine its star Markus Howard transferred to Findlay Prep in Nevada. One player that will be key in the resurgence of Perry, led by Coach Duane, is Rajhan Billingsley. We recently caught up with him and asked him about this upcoming season.
When asked about his expectations for this upcoming year as well as his role on the team, Billingsley spoke about being the vocal leader and trying to have everyone buy in and work hard so that they can be one of the top teams in the state. As for individual goals, “I will definitely be aiming for all-division and all-state as well”. These accomplishments would mean that Rajhan, and the program have both taken a big step in the right direction. Coach Duane has already began to make an impact, which could lead to Billingsley becoming the next player that he has coached to go to play collegiate basketball.
Rajhan has good size for a wing, which is where he projects to at the college level. He has a good shooting touch, and competes at a high level on both ends of the floor. He has been in contact thus far with Army and Lake Forest. Pointing to relationships as being a major factor in deciding where to spend the next chapter of his life and career, he says that he wants to go wherever he is the most comfortable. While knowing that he needs to become more consistent in terms of being in attack mode, as well as putting in work to improve his ball handling and foot speed, the young wing knows that his IQ, work ethic, and shooting ability will be what gets him in the door. Also giving credit to his coaches from Powerhouse, he said that “paying attention to detail and having no mercy are two things that I definitely took away from the club circuit”.
This should be an exciting year for teams and prospects across the state, and Rajhan Billingsley looks to make it a memorable one for both himself and his team.
