The Wingers are 0-1 after a loss to Northfield, but they’re looking to get back on track against Faribault this week. Kipp connected with NHR recently and filled us in on his college basketball recruitment.
“The final schools that I’m considering as of now are Mayville State, Gustavus, Bethany Lutheran, and Buena Vista in Iowa,” Adams said. “So if I wanted to go MIAC I’d go with Gustavus. I really like Mayville State’s coach a lot, and we have a good relationship, too. I’ve also been hearing from some other NAIA schools like Morningside, Briar Cliff and Waldorf. As far as visiting those schools, I probably won’t visit unless one of them offers sometime during my senior year. But I’d say my front runner is Mayville State.”
Adams will get a chance to spend more time with coach Dan DeWitt when he visits Mayville this month.
I’m pretty sure Mayville is going to offer when I visit on the 18th, and all the others are gonna watch closely during the year,” Adams said.
As far as what he’s looking for in a college, Adams said “whichever school feels like the best fit to me and where I feel most at home. Also, I don’t want to be to close to home where I just feel like I can drive home anytime I want. I want to get a good college experience.”
Update from 5/6/16
What’s left next year after Red Wing graduates its top three contributors from a state participating team? Kipp Adams, the fourth-leading scorer at 6 PPG, will have to emerge, and some schools are already jumping in on his recruitment.
“I was the 6th man for red wing and I played my role which was to shoot threes and create for my teammates and play good defense,” Kipp said. “My role is really going to expand next year since only me and one other junior played varsity playing time. I shot 40% from 3 and we took a lot of pride in our defense.
Adams is jersey #14 on Select Leafblad 17U.
“The spring is going good,” he added. “I’m being a lot more aggressive like I’m going to have to do next year and also making my teammates better. I’m talking to St. John’s, Gustavus, Concordia-Moorhead and Crown College and some other UMAC schools have also contacted me. As far as visits go, I’m going to get out this summer and visit as many schools as I can!”
It will be interesting to see how Red Wing’s lineup shifts with Adams as one of the lead players, and you can bet that area D3s will be monitoring.
