When the national Prep Expo rankings come out in two weeks Nelson will surely be among the 250 and he will get a huge boost in two weeks when the Minnesota 2017 rankings are updated.
It’s been an excellent twelve months for Kaleb and his time with Select was quite beneficial.
“Some of my best experiences from AAU were that coming into the season I wasn’t known and wasn’t the go to scorer which I think helped me find other ways to score,” Nelson said.
“My shooting really improved and helped me play harder and really install that mind set that you can always get better.”
Nelson was the Jays third leading scorer a year ago scoring ten points a game and even though Nick Dufault and his 25-30 points per game are gone Waseca is still going to be very strong.
“I am lifting weights and shooting with a few other teammates in the morning,” Nelson explained.
“I really want to work on my handling so I minimize my turnovers and if I can dribble more effectively then I create my own shots and shots for others which will help the team.”
Nelson played a big role in the Jays getting to the state tournament a year ago and the four overtime classic is something Kaleb wont forget from an unforgettable year.
“My top moment was obviously the section game with four overtimes and making it to state against Marshall.
“Some other top moments was opening night getting my first start on varsity, and playing in Williams Arena for state. I averaged about 12 points and shot about 48 percent from the field, I think I averaged about five assists.”
Nelson showed last weekend the he will be a college basketball player and there is one MIAC program that has been smart enough to get in on Kaleb.
“I’m hearing the most from the University of Jamestown, St. Mary’s in Winona, and Bethany Lutheran College,” Kaleb said.
“The only visit I know that I am going on sometime is St. Mary’s but no date has been set. I would like to visit any college that wants me at this point.”
