His summer was filled with tournament after tournament as he slowly started to show improvement from month to month. After a great grassroots campaign with the Oklahoma Wolfpack, Williams is ready for his final season with the Millers. Williams says he is looking forward to taking all he has learned throughout the summer and bringing it to the high school hardwood.
“I picked up a lot of tips and pointers to make my game more efficient,” said Williams. “I learned how to play at a faster tempo but also stay under control. How to guard bigger guys than me and also use my ability in the post against smaller defenders. I learned how to play with new people and use their abilities to compliment with mine.”
Williams has certainly matured in his game and he touched on one of his biggest improvements, staying under control. He has the ability to go coast to coast and make plays. He also has the ability to patiently assess the defense and attack accordingly.
The Millers are looking forward to the 2016-17 season where they will finally have a promising roster. Big man Cameron Martin returns after a season at Norman North, giving Yukon an inside presence. Shooting guard Vernon Turner also returns to strengthen the backcourt alongside Williams. In the states largest classification, Williams has some big expectations for this season.
“We are going to surprise some people this season,” said Williams. “I think we are getting underestimated but we are ready. The only exception I have for us is make it to the state tournament and then win it.
While his team picks up a handful of hype heading into the season, Williams himself is picking up attention in the recruiting world. He recently went on an unofficial visit to Baker University in Kansas. He has also received interest from Kansas Wesleyan, Bethel College, and the University of Central Oklahoma.
William’s says his collegiate destination will be the place he feels most at home.
“I’m looking for a team that’s a family and all like to hang together,” said Williams. “A school with good academics and a coaching staff that cares about their players and wants to have a relationship with them.”
Williams is projected as a Division II project who could pick up a lot of attention as his final season rolls along.
