He’s confident that as his final season with the Eagles unfolds, his recruitment will ramp-up with it.
“No offers right now, but I feel like my time is coming,” said English, who mentioned he’d like to play point guard at the next level.
“I’ve had a variety of schools contact me from all levels. From Division III I’ve had Defiance College ask me to come on a visit, and also Albion. And I’ve been in contact with Rochester College. Also D2 I just went to University of Illinois-Springfield camp — I really liked it down there.”
Though English has seen some Division I interest, it’s not as persistent as the lower level schools.
“For D1, I just went to the IPFW camp, and I was in contact with Central (Michigan), but it’s kind of fallen off. And then I’ve had just a little bit of contact with Colgate,” said English, who mentioned which school is in most frequent contact.
“Right now Defiance is the one that’s constantly in contact with me. But I feel like other colleges will come on as the year goes by.”
As a junior at Romulus, English averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds per game. Now, as he heads into his senior season, he will take on more of a leadership role.
He gave PHMI an outlook on what to expect from the Eagles this season.
“We don’t have the size that past Romulus teams have had. But I feel like the group of guys I have right now are very tight. Right now we’re running cross-country as team, because this year we know we’re going to have to run more. And we pride ourselves in shooting the 3, and we’re going to get a lot of shots up,” said English.
“And my role will be leadership. We have really young guys, and I feel like I’ll really have to push them and myself more. I feel like if I push myself more, then they will follow.”
