Gilyard ran with Meanstreets who had a successful spring making it to Peach Jam. How did he feel it went in July?
“It went ok. Not what I was expecting, but I still did good and held my own against everyone.”
When it comes to recruiting he says some of the new schools that have been in contact include Furman, Murray State, Howard, Western Michigan, and Tulsa. What schools are in consistent contact and making him feel like a priority?
“Murray State, Tulsa, and St. Louis.”
At this time Gilyard says he does not have any visits locked in and will set those up after open gyms. Is he looking to sign in the fall or play out his senior season before making a call?
“I’m not sure yet. It really depends on the visits, relationship, and fit.”
Gilyard is a quick and shifty left handed lead guard that isn’t the tallest, but plays with speed. He is best in the open floor where he pushes the tempo and makes plays. Slippery through traffic with the ball in his hands and has the body control to convert acrobatic layups at the rim. Streaky shooter from beyond the arc, but can get on hot streaks for short periods of time. Solid distributor and pesky on ball defender.
