Continue ReadingDevon Schultz is a 6-foot-8 big man from Sibley East who jumped on our radar after playing AAU with Crossfire, and we got another good look at the Top 250 Expo this weekend. He is truly a big man whose size and presence is tremendous.
His review of Crossfire is extremely positive after one year with the program.
“I was very happy with my time playing for Crossfire,” Schultz told NHR. “The first day I went to work out with them, they all shook my hand and introduced themselves. We had a lot of fun and made a lot of great memories.
“It wasn’t all fun and games. In practice, coach made sure that if we got off task, we concentrated and got work done. They taught me a lot about being a post. They taught me how to score better down low, how to play defense against guards, and they boosted my confidence when it comes to scoring. I am very happy I was introduced to this team.”
As far as fall activity goes, Schultz is enjoying special access to the school gym.
“I’ve been going to the gym and weight room whenever I can,” he said. “My aunt is a teacher, so I have access to the school whenever. I’m also attending a Scoutsfocus camp, and my high school is trying to do a fall league team.”
Schultz and his family have not decided yet if he should attend a two- or four-year school right away. There are definitely benefits to both.
“I haven’t decided yet, my family and I have been talking,” he said. “I like both options. With junior college I can develop more as a player, because I haven’t fully developed into my body yet. But it would also be nice to go straight into things. We are still talking about it.”
Schultz is planning on going to a visit to Southwestern College (Ks.) as well as Lake Region State, a D1 juco in North Dakota. He has also gotten some mail from NAIAs like Morningside (Ia.). Our guess is that several of the schools that were present at this weekend’s Prep Hoops expo will be reaching out to Schultz.
