The 6-foot point guard still has some time to make the case that he’s one of Michigan’s best floor generals. And though he has just one offer — from Toledo last summer — he says several schools are still in contact with him.
“I have a lot of interest from a bunch of mid-major schools like Eastern Michigan, Detroit, Drake University…a bunch of schools like that,” said Owens-White.
“I think either Drake or Detroit could be next to offer, they show a lot of interest.”
He added: “Over these next five or six months I just want to get better and just find a school that fits me and has the best coach that’s going to develop my game and develop me as a person.”
A student of the game, Owens-White cites his court awareness and basketball IQ as strengths of his. And those attributes allow him to set him and his teammates up for success.
“My major strength is my knowledge of the game; I take a lot of time to study the game,” said Owens-White. “Secondary and third is my dribbling, and then my court-vision; I find my teammates and I make everybody else better. And I can shoot really well and I’m a good defender too.”
Last season with the Panthers, Owens-White says he averaged 24 points, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds per game. This year his main goal is to be the best leader he can be.
“In past years I’ve had to score a lot, but my senior season I’m going to have a lot of help. So my major thing is just to be a better leader; make everybody better, stay positive. That’s the major goal of my senior senior season basketball-wise,” he said.
“And then we just want to keep getting better, keep winning and win a state championship. I’m really excited for my senior season.”
