McCombs is a strong 6’7” power forward that plays to his strengths. He likes to post up, face, and attack. The Jacksonville 2017 post displays quick moves attacking the hoop using his improving athleticism slashing from the mid-post area. Quick around the hoop and is extremely active. Has the skill to hit a 10-15 foot jump shot. Tough on the glass where he really competes. He spoke with us about his summer with the Illinois Irish.
“I thought that as a team we played well not just during the summer, but the whole AAU season. I thought our ability to defend and our unselfishness are what made us play at the level we did. I thought I played well and battled against bigger post players. I usually had to guard the five man because of us being a small AAU team so I was able to work on being tough down low. My offense had some rough patches, but it all came together by the end of the season when it counted. I also thought my offensive rebounding greatly improved.”
The senior post updated us on his recruitment.
“I have four D2 offers from Lewis, McKendree, Truman State, and Quincy. I’ve taken unofficial visits to all of them, but in the next two months I’m going back to all four of them so I can meet the players and see the campus with everyone there. Those are my final four schools that I’m choosing from.”
McCombs has dates locked in for the quartet.
“I go to Truman September 24-25, Lewis October 2-3, McKendree October 9-10, and Quincy October 15-16.”
What will he be looking for in the schools for them to separate themselves from each other?
“I’m mainly now looking for the right fit by feeling comfortable with the coaching staff and players since I’ll be spending a lot of time with them.”
He talked about a timeline for making a call.
“I am planning on signing in November and verbally committing a couple weeks before.”
