Top 40 – 25-21
#25 Dischon Thomas 6’7 PF/C 2019 Hillcrest Prep – Thomas has a soft touch, good frame and solid footwork. He has transferred from Cesar Chavez and reclassified at Hillcrest Prep. Last year, at Cesar Chavez, Thomas managed to average almost 7 points per game and 4 rebounds. Look for Thomas to continue to work on his mid-range jumper to make him more effective in a pick and pop setting. Thomas is one of the top 40 players in the state and should have a couple of colleges interested in him before it is all said and done.
#24 Wesley Harris 6’5 SF/PF 2018 Desert Vista – Harris is a jack of all trades. He does a little bit of everything as a means of ensuring that his team can be successful. In comparison to others, his motor really stands out. He rarely takes places off, and he is constantly doing all of the little things necessary to impact the game. Moreover, Harris attacks the rim well and his shot is becoming more and more consistent. Lastly, Harris displays elite level athleticism.
#23 Saikou Gueye 6’6 SF 2017 Mountain Ridge – One of the most versatile players in the state. Above average shooter, good athlete, and great length. He is able to attack the rim at will as well. I foresee Gueye having a lot of success at the next level as he can play the 2-4 in the right offense and guard most 2-4s. With Green leaving Mountain Ridge, expect Gueye to have a much bigger role and impact on a very talented roster.
#22 Christino Gomez 6’9 PF 2017 Hillcrest Prep – Gomez has good length and solid footwork. He does a really nice job on the block for Hillcrest and has demonstrated an ability to pick and pop as well. His length and above average motor assist him in excelling at the high school level and should assist him greatly in transitioning to the college game. Gomez, although a Prep school player, is well deserving of being in the top 40 due to his elite level skill.
#21 Curtis Hodges 6’8 C 2017 Mountain View (ASU Commit – Football) – Hodges is one of the best two sport athletes in the state. He is currently committed to play football at ASU, but he could definitely play basketball at the next level if he chose to. He has elite level athleticism and good size to go with it. He has good footwork and hands to go with a soft touch around the rim. In addition, he does a good job of moving without the basketball to create gaps for teammates to kick to him when the help side rotates.
