The humble Cowan (#3 2019 in Illinois) only hinted at the tip of the iceberg when he discussed recruiting interest.
In truth, Cowan is one of the hottest names in the Midwest.
Tuesday Michigan dropped in to evaluate Cowan. Purdue is in today. Last Saturday Perry attended Northwestern’s football game as an invited guest.
Afterward Perry tweeted:
“Thanks to the coaches at Northwestern for a great time at the game @NUMensBball #GoCats”
Though he “only” boasts UIC and Illinois offers currently, he is certain to attract double-digit Big 10 offers in the years to come.
“Illinois Wolves 2019 G 6’4 Perry Cowan (DePaul Prep) and 6’6 Kai Bates Diop (U-High) will both set up unofficial visits to Notre Dame,” shared Illinois Wolves Director Mike Mullins.
According to Coach Mullins, Cowan will also visit Michigan next month.
In the video interview, Cowan listed Wisconsin as another potential visit destination.
Evaluation
Perry Cowan has a special blend of size and skill at such a young age.
“Very few players are All-CCL as a frosh,” said AAU Coach Mullins.
The Chicago Catholic League annually churns out college starters. The list of impactful D1 and pro players out of CCL is long and proud: Quentin “Q” Richardson, Corey Maggette, LaRue Martin, JaVale McGee, Antoine Walker, and even Coach K.
It is a scary list of dominating hoopers, but Cowan likely lands in that exclusive company by career’s end.
“High major talent and work ethic with a quiet confidence,” said Coach Mullins. “Perry is a multi-skilled player who plays the game the right way with and without the ball. (These are) rare qualities in today’s social media showcase mentality.”
Off the court, Cowan is a top student and Coach Mullins loves how coachable the young man is and projects to be.
