The shooting guard spot is features the state’s #2 overall prospect in Tim Finke (Champaign Central). The 6’5” junior is a complete two guard with his ability to shoot it from three especially moving without the ball to get open along with his athleticism make him a coveted commodity for Midwest high-major programs. The next trio of Drew Peterson (Libertyville), Cardell McGee (Springfield Lanphier), and Kezo Brown (Simeon) are all scoring wings that are good athletes who are coming off strong campaigns on the grassroots circuit. Each should be monitored by mid-major programs. A pair of big time central Illinois scorers that also need to be on the mid-major radar are Armon Brummett (Decatur MacArthur) and Lacey Watson (Rock Island). They put up buckets in a hurry! Rangy wings with potential to play at the D1 level include Justin Boyd (Whitney Young), Darius Beane (Carbondale), Javon Freeman, and Quinlan Bennett (Proviso East). Names that emerged as over the last few months that follow those guys are Malachi Smith (Belleville East), Ryan Kutsor (Lake Zurich), Robert Harvey (Hillcrest), Ryan Martin (Fremd), Ryan Saunders (Joliet Central), and Devynn Wakefield (United Township).
The small forward position is topped by Simeon wing Talen Horton-Tucker. THT has steadily improved his game over the last two years to now where he is considered one of the top prospects in his class. Horton-Tucker is extremely productive with his motor, skill level, and ability to shoot it. Also rebounds well for his position. There is quite a bit of a drop after Horton-Tucker who is #3 overall to the next best small forward group that starts at #32 overall. That group is led by Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville) who is a combo forward that can play both the three and four positions, but is best as a floor spacing shooter. Justin Hardy (St. Charles East), Donita Johnson (Romeoville), and Jake Wolfe (Aurora Christian) are each worth a look at the LM level early in the process. Ethan Schuemer (Willowbrook) is a name that has an arrow pointing up next to his name as the versatility and production impressive in July.
