Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Dosunmu is not only the top point guard in the class, but the top prospect overall. The rangy 6’3” point guard does a little bit of everything and does them all at a high level. He is a big time scorer that is slippery through traffic being able to finish at the rim with great body control. Deep range on his three point shot that he can hit both off the catch and pulling up. Solid passer that has a feel for getting others involved in the half court. Defensively he pressures the ball and creates turnovers in the open floor. High-major prospect.
Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young)
Castaneda could be the next star for the Dolphins. The point guard has speed in the open floor where he is at his best pushing it and getting others involved. Works well around screens where he uses his ball handling to create separation which allow him to see the floor and hit pull up jumpers. Solid feel for the game and has a chance to be a mid-major plus prospect at the next level.
Brandon Hurt (Marian Catholic)
Hurt impressed us with his play on the grassroots circuit for Team Rose 16U. The Marian Catholic lead guard has a strong and physical build while also maintaining his fluidity. Hurt works well in the half court where he has the ability to run a team and make crisp passes to get others involved. Strength allows him to score in the paint and can hit a mid-range jumper. Should be on the mid-major radar.
DeAndre Heckard (Romeoville)
Heckard lit it up in July with Hoops4Health. Heckard has great size for position along with broad shoulders and strong arms. Totally looks the part along with quality athleticism. Has a nice feel for the game and is a plus passer with the ability to find teammates in the open floor as well as dish it off on the interior in the half court. Explosive off the bounce slashing to the basket where he is slippery through traffic getting to the rim. Powerful finishing at the paint. Displayed an improving jump shot. Really competes and has a passion for the game. Should be monitored by LM programs.
Amir Brummett (Decatur MacArthur)
Brummett is one of the more intriguing lead guards in the junior class with his ability to score as well as dish it. The junior guard has shown early in his career he can distribute the ball on occasion as a combo guard along with his ability to really score it. Makes some great dishes for assists, but will also have a high risk pass that might not connect on occasion. As a ball handler he pushes it in transition and is slippery with it in traffic. Solid perimeter shooter with range.
Kendle Moore (Danville)
Moore is a thinly built point guard that uses his speed and slick handles to impact the game. Pushes the tempo in a major way especially in the open floor. Explosive acceleration off the bounce and getting in the lane. Coming off a quality summer with Team Rose and he will look to continue that as a junior with a talented Danville team.
Marquan Williams (Perspectives)
The 5’9” point guard from Perspectives is a quick and shifty lead guard that is electric with the ball in his hands. He plays with a good pace of knowing when to push and when to run sets. Best utilizing his pull up mid-range jumper which is consistently good off the bounce.
Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook)
Thornton is a speed burner with the rock in his hands. Gets from end to end in a hurry. Slick ball handler that can get in the lane where he finds teammates. Adequate scorer that is best taking it to the rim off the bounce.
Camron Donatlan (West Aurora)
Donatlan is a slick ball handler from West Aurora continues to elevate his stock. The lefty lead guard has a feel for the game and plays with good pace. Great handles and is quick with the ball. Can hit an occasional jumper. Opened eyes with his play for Meanstreets on the grassroots circuit.
Ahmad Muhammad (St. Joseph’s)
Muhammad put himself on the D2 and low-major radar with his play throughout the spring and summer. The point guard from St. Joseph’s plays with a high basketball IQ and knows how to run a team. Also shoots it well from both mid-range and three which was on point in July. Defensively is a pressure on ball defender that is active at the point of attack.
