Jimmy Sotos (Conant)
The stock of this Conant point guard has continued to steadily go up and up over the last year. Solid high school season, very good spring, and dominant July. Sotos is a poised guard that can play both on and off the ball. Really shoots the ball well especially moving without the ball to get open. Crisp passer that is a vocal leader and a guy that his teammates want to follow.
Mark Smith (Edwardsville)
Smith played with Jets/Ramey United in July and saw his stock rise because of two reasons. The first was his play on the court. He got better as the month went along and by the end of July he was a dominant force for the Jets. The other reason is Smith decommitted from Mizzou where he was going as a baseball pitcher. Smith is a big and physical lead guard that can overpower opponents, has a good passing feel, and can hit a mid-range jumper.
Devin Whitelow (Washington)
We have always been fans of Whitelow. The high IQ point guard from Washington knows how to run a team and is a true leader at the point guard position. If he was 6’0” he would probably be a D1 recruit, but he showed that he can be an impact D2 player in July playing for the Illinois Irish and willing them to wins. Smart and tough lead guard that makes sound decisions with the ball, can hit a pull up jumper, and is a pesky on ball defender.
Tray Buchanan (United Township)
Buchanan played great for Kingdom Hoops throughout July. He is a powerful guard with great strength. At times can fall in love with his pull up jump shot which he can hit on occasion, but his bread and butter is attacking the hoop going downhill. When he was aggressive attacking the hoop he took over games at times.
Octavius Parker (Kenwood)
Parker playing with Playground Elite in July put together a pretty consistent month. He is at his best when he shoots it well from the perimeter. Parker is a streaky shooter that was on fire at times during July when we saw him hitting jumpers off the catch. Potential as a combo guard at the D2 level.
Maurice Edwards (Alton)
Edwards lets his play do the talking and he elevated his stock with that play in July for Jets/Ramey United. The powerful guard isn’t a great shooter, but is a powerful slasher that gets to the rim where he finishes or gets to the charity stripe. Good pushing it in the transition game.
