Continue ReadingThe fourth annual DMVelite 80 returns this Saturday, as some of the area’s biggest names will showcase their talents at Bowie City Gymnasium. Vantage Hoops will be in the gym throughout the day for what is shaping up to be an outstanding event. Our preview resumes below as we run down a few junior point guards to watch at E80.
Brendan Adams | Calvert Hall
A big, strong guard who has the skill, feel, and scoring prowess to play both on and off the ball, the future appears bright for Baltimore United guard Brendan Adams. The younger brother of current St. Bonaventure star Jaylen Adams, Brendan earned offers from the Bonnies as well as Saint Joseph’s, Towson, and Kansas State among others this summer. Given his very strong academic record, Adams could emerge as a primary target for high academic programs of all levels.
Jared Bynum | Georgetown Prep
Jared Bynum put together a strong body of work this summer. The DC Blue Devils lead guard held his own while playing up on the UAA circuit, and led his team to a championship during the 2016 BSN Summer League. A proven scoring threat, Bynum is an extremely difficult matchup for opposing guards as a result of his paint-getting prowess mixed with his efficient perimeter jump shot and reliable playmaking ability.
Montrell Horsey | Joppatowne
We saw the impact Montrell Horsey brings defensively this summer with Team Melo. The tough, athletic guard takes pride in locking down his man. Horsey makes a consistent effort to pick up full court. He also has quick reactions to go along with very solid instincts.
Donovann Toatley | Riverdale Baptist
Donovann Toatley authored a brilliant sophomore campaign with St. Stephen’s St. Agnes. The electric playmaker is coming off a strong summer with DC Premier and will look to carry the momentum he built over the summer with him to his new school.
Tre Wood | St. John’s
From baseline to baseline, Tre Wood is second to none with the ball in his hands. The explosive lead guard is an exceptional playmaker who is simply impossible to keep out of the paint. Wood’s recruitment expanded this summer as a result of a solid grassroots campaign with Team Takeover. Expect that to continue after this weekend and beyond.
