Apollo – The backcourt of Holland Woods and Dre Marin are among the state’s best. Add Emmanuel Taban, and you have the making of a solid core that will compete for the title.
Arcadia – Max Moses is a guard that can go for 30 on any given night. He has the green light, and will shoot himself out of a slump.
Copper Canyon – Tre McCray is a long-armed, athletic guard that can be very effective on both ends of the floor. He has some athletic teammates that should be able to apply some solid defensive pressure.
Cesar Chavez – Donald Carter may be the breakout guard of the year. He has all of the physical tools, the skills, and it is his senior year and last chance to make his mark on Chavez history. Malik Porter and De’Mond Hart make them arguably the most athletic team in the state.
Camelback – Elijah Mead will instantly make this team solid. This kid can flat out play. Few have seen him since he played in the CAA last season, but it won’t take long for everyone to know his name.
Central – Central has a long, athletic team that can get up and down the floor with anyone. While they can occasionally struggle shooting bad shots, and shooting from the perimeter in general, when all things are clicking, they are dangerous.
Mountain Pointe – Mountain Pointe has a lot of talented players, Led by Logan Matulis and Terrance Hunter, but are very inexperienced. They could either wind up being a very good, deep team, or they could have their struggles with teams that have more cohesion in their play, the results are yet to be seen. If Jalen Graham emerges as a presence inside, they could make some noise.
Pinnacle – Nico Mannion is special. Pinnacle is poised to have a huge year, as they are a complete basketball team that executes down the stretch in tight games. They now have the “star”, or “closer” that they have been missing in Mannion.
Sunnyslope – Returning the key pieces from a state runner-up team last season will be big, as they now have the experience that few other teams possess. Look for Bryson Mewhinney to take the next step this year.
Tolleson, Desert Mountain, North, Maryvale, Fairfax, Trevor Browne, Millennium, Valley Vista, Sierra Linda, Chaparral, Carl Hayden, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Cactus round out the field.
