The 6’8 forward plays wide receiver for head coach Ty Wisdom, where the Huskies are now 2-0 after beating Chaparral this past Friday night.
At PrepHoops Arizona we got to sit down with Jake and ask him about hoops from club ball to this upcoming high school season as well as his recruiting process.
When asked about his AAU season with AZ Power North Hess said, “My July was good I finally felt like I was playing like I always knew I could. Even if we didn’t get the results we wanted at times.
Since last high school season Hess has stated he has “been working on my foot works when I get in the paint and also my shooting from outside.” When asked what he is still working on the three-sport athlete says, “I’m still working on those same things. Because I feel like for me to play like I can, I have to keep improving at those aspects.”
This upcoming season for Horizon, Hess has high expectations; “It’s going to be a great season we have a lot of returning players from last year and some new ones who are going to try it out, so I’m very excited. We’re going to go deep in the playoffs this year.”
He has enjoyed his 4 years at Horizon where the school has seen plenty of talented Hess siblings. Jake said, “I enjoy playing at Horizon because with Coach Conner I get to use one of my greatest athletic abilities and that’s my speed and stamina, also the whole community at Horizon is just really supportive with all of it’s sports.”
When it comes to recruiting Hess still hasn’t received any major interest. “Phoenix College has shown interest in me, I’ve mainly heard from Dixie State and Arizona Christian University.”
He would like to play both football & basketball at the next level but is keeping all options open at this time. Hess remains one of the more underrated 2017 forwards. Look for a breakout season for Hess!
