On his high school team he plays mostly inside so seeing him play with Illinois Old School was a nice opportunity to evaluate him at his college position of small forward. The Curie forward shows explosion off the bounce on quick drives. Smith is a physically impressive athlete that should be looked at heavily by D2 programs. High academic kid.
He spoke about how June went playing back with Curie.
“We played well. I am playing at a different position at small forward. Coach Mike (Oliver) has me playing there so I have to be more versatile up and down the court.”
At the next level he projects as a three man, but in the past has been playing as an undersized four. He talks about playing more on perimeter this season.
“It gives me more opportunities to push the ball up the court. It allows me to take advantages of mismatches. Coach trusts me to take advantage of that. It will be great to use against different opponents.”
Several colleges are showing interest in the wing.
“San Francisco, South Dakota, Western Illinois, East Tennessee, and Bethune Cookman are interested.”
