With that said, one of the top two sport athletes in the state is a Sophomore by the name of Spencer Rattler, 6’1″ PG/SG 2019 of Pinnacle. Rattler has received multiple offers due to his high skill level as a quarterback; however, he has made a name for himself on the basketball court as well. Last season, as a freshman, he averaged a little over 6 points per game and shot the ball at almost 50% from inside the 3 and at almost 40% from the 3. Due to the large talent pool of underclassmen, Pinnacle’s basketball team should be quite excited.
As it currently stands, this two sport athlete has offers in football from “Oklahoma, UCLA, ASU, Kentucky, Memphis, and Texas A&M”. In addition, he has received interest from “Boise State, BYU, Cal, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Colorado, Florida State, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State.”
Although he has attained a bountiful of offers as a freshman football player, he has yet to garner an offer on the basketball court. With that said, he has received interest from “Northwestern, GCU, and Colorado Christian.”
As far as basketball is concerned, Rattler participates with the Aces, but did not participate with them in July due to football. Like all two sport athletes, he will have a difficult time doing a lot of club basketball and exposure events due to the fact that he will be training for football during the July live period. However, as long as he continues to work on his game, he has potential to play this game at the next level as well.
Rattler is a special talent. He has a really high basketball IQ as he plays the game with a quarterback mindset. Moreover, he has tremendous athletic ability which enabled him to have a lot of success on the varsity level despite being a freshman. His quickness, strength, and jumping abilities make him a special athlete regardless of sport. This qualities, mixed with his basketball skills, enable him to be a playmaker on the offensive end and to guard most 1-3s.
Rattler also has the right mindset to be a quality contributor for this talented and young Pinnacle group as he stated, “My goal is to help the team in anyway I can. If that’s in scoring, rebounding, assisting.” In addition, he mentioned that he has high expectations for this team as another one of his goals is to “win a state championship.”
Keep a look out for this top tier two sport athlete as he makes an impact on the football field and the basketball court. He is a lot of fun to watch and should have the chance to choose between basketball and football at the next level.
