With the revamping of the classifications and regions, Greenway will be reclassified to 4A. If Greenway is going to be successful this next year, they will rely heavily on 2017 6’2″ PG/SG Scotty Shaver.
Shaver is one of the top shooters in the state, which was reaffirmed as he recently won the Jordan Basketball Camp shooting contest. In addition to being a strong shooter, he has improved his defensive intensity and awareness as well. Moreover, he is often times wrongly classified as just a “shooter” as he has the ability to take defenders off the dribble as well as out of triple threat. He has a really well balanced game and can play the 1 or 2 with his size, ball handling, and shooting ability.
Currently, Shaver has not received any offers “in writing”. However, he has “interest from 20 D1, D2, and D3 schools that have reached out to [him] through either text, e-mail, phone call, and face to face”. Some of those schools include, “Brown, Point Loma, UCSD, Pacific Life, Colorado, Azusa Pacific, Georgia Southern, and University of Chicago.”
Although he does not have any offers in writing, he did note that he has been offered “spots” on a roster by “Monmouth and George Fox University.”
For a potential suitor, Shaver would prefer a “California school just because of location;” however, he has not “ruled anything out”. He is also looking for a school where he can “earn a good education and get a chance to play ball.”
At this point, Shaver is most likely a mid to low NCAA Division 2 or NAIA Division I prospect. He is a strong student which assists greatly in his ability to be recruiting. Moreover, he brings many other items to the table that make him a good prospect at that level. In fact, when asked what he feels like he brings a next level team, he stated, “leadership, a winning mentality, hard work, and dedication.” As far as on the court skills, he noted that he brings, “shooting, tough defense, ball handling, and hustle.”
