Continue ReadingMason Stark, a 2017 6’3 sharpshooter of Marcos De Niza, has one definite offer at this point and a couple of schools demonstrating interest. Stark is a highly talented basketball player who has great work ethic and an extremely high basketball IQ. Due to his ability to shoot the basketball at an alarmingly high rate, many misclassify him as a “shooter”. He has a lot of things in his arsenal that enable him to make an impact on a game.
One of the biggest things that he does well for a team is rebound the basketball. At 6’3, he could play a point guard or shooting guard in college. Thus, being a guard that is capable of grabbing a couple of rebounds and competing on the glass will help his potential college greatly. Moreover, he does a nice job of making a move and allowing the defender to respond. He gets a lot of “And Ones” around the rim as he does a great job of pump faking to get the defender in the air, and he is also disciplined enough to keep his hips square to the backboard as well.
Currently, Stark has received an offer from in-state NAIA Division-II “Mesa-Benedictine“. Stark will be participating in the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in September and Mesa-Benedictine will be there to appraise the other talent the state has to offer, and they will undoubtedly watch their potential player as well.
In addition to Mesa-Benedictine, Stark has received interest from “Colorado College, Azusa Pacific, Dixie State, Point Loma, Macalester, Oberlin, Whitman, and Embry Riddle.”
In addition to being one of the highest IQ players in his classification, one of the best shooters in his class, and one of the most coachable players in the state; Stark is also an overachiever in the classroom. He carries a “3.89 unweighted and 4.53 weighted GPA.” Young men that possesses his skills and GPA are in high demand, and I would not be surprised to see him earn a couple of more suitors and a lot more interest by the time that his senior season concludes.
Stark is capable of playing at the Mid NCAA Division-II or NAIA Division-I level, but a lot of NCAA Division-III schools should give him a look as he has tremendous grades and work ethic to go along with his basketball skills.
As far as the upcoming season is concerned, Stark is quite hopeful. In fact, he stated that he believes that the team “can make it deep into the playoffs and win a ring if we work hard and stay focused.” In regards to individual goals, Stark wants to, “get more assists and work on my jumper. I also hope to pull up from three off the dribble better and work on making my release quicker. I want to help my team win state.”
We look forward to having Stark at the Expo as he is certainly one of the Top 250 players in the state.
