Continue ReadingBelleville Althoff small forward Marvin Bateman was in a bit of a shooting slump the first part of July, but he broke out of that in Shawnee with a great shooting display to close out the month. Bateman is a 6’5” small forward with a long and lanky frame. He came off the bench this past year as a shooting specialist for Belleville Althoff. He is a great spot up shooting threat that drills them off the catch. Low-major prospect or high D2 kid.
Bateman spoke about his final run on the circuit with Jets/Ramey United.
“It is going good with the Jets. I am breakout out a little more late. My shot is getting there.”
How was June getting back together with his high school teammates?
“It was good since we lost three of our starters last year. Getting our chemistry and rhythm down.”
Bateman will have to take on an even bigger role next year if they want to repeat as state champs.
“Next year I will be more of a playmaker. Last year I came off the bench to hit some shots. This year I will have a bigger role scoring and rebounding more.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have one offer from Maryville and a couple schools talking to me. I am hearing from Western Illinois and SEMO.”
Maryville is a program that has extended a scholarship.
“The coach is nice. It is a great fit for me. Small school.”
