Marist is a new school on the radar for Webster but he was able to take a trip to the New York state school this weekend and came away quite impressed.
“The campus was the first thing that stood out to my family and me,” Kobe said of his trip to Marist. “It’s a true college campus. I actually told the coaches that it looked like something you see in the movies. Coaching staff was great.”
While Marist is new, the relationship isn’t as much. Assistant coach C.J. Lee used to be back at Michigan when Webster was a freshman and he was a contact during this early recruitment. Now, at Marist, Lee is sparking up that relationship and it is one that Webster is comfortable with.
“Coach C.J. Lee is who originally reached out. I had some connection with Coach Lee because of his time at Michigan. Coach Maker was great too. Really down to earth, honest and respectful.”
Kobe will take his first official visit this coming month. The lone offer on the table for him is Western Illinois and he will head there the second weekend in September. Columbia is another school still looking hard at Webster and a possible visit could be set up soon.
“Definitely want to key in on the schools most interested. But also remain open to new interests,” Kobe said of his plans this winter. “Looking to visit schools that my high school coach has heard from as well.”
For one of the top point guards in the state, Webster might start to see a spike in his recruitment following this summer’s play. He looked a lot more comfortable and was able to make plays with consistency, on and off the ball. This was the best he has looked and now, with a new high school coach, he will try and parlay that into a successful high school season. He has plenty of skill and we would expect his stock to continue to rise over the next few months.
