Sleeper combo guard Justin Ruhberg out of St. Charles (near Winona) has a clear goal for the Saints this winter. “Through all the work put in, I’m looking forward to helping my high school compete for a section championship and…
“Through all the work put in, I’m looking forward to helping my high school compete for a section championship and first state appearance,” Ruhberg said.
That’s right, the Saints have never been to state. They nearly made it last year, amassing a 27-2 record before falling to Caledonia in the section final. But this D3/NAIA prospect is looking to change that after a summer of growth with Select Ellis.
“The AAU season with Minnesota Select was a great experience,” Ruhberg said. “It allowed me to play against good competition which helped me improve my overall game. My sophomore season I was mainly known for my long range shooting, and through work in the summer I was able to improve my overall game by attacking the rim and improving on my mid range jumper.”
Ruhberg went ahead to detail some of the schools in contact with him.
“As far as colleges, I have had some contact with coaches from the MIAC conference and WIAC. My visits so far have been with St. John’s, Gustavus Adolphus and Viterbo. I have visits scheduled in August for Augsburg, Northwestern and Bethany Lutheran.”
Ruhberg averaged 15 PPG for the Saints last year and will be one of the more talented players in far southeast Minnesota.
