Continue ReadingAfter an injury kept him out for much of his junior season, Rockford point guard Jason Majerle is eager to show himself at 100 percent once again.
He had been seeing some college interest come in as recently as his sophomore season, and though some of the recruitment faded, he’s still in touch with three area programs.
“I had a bunch of interest sophomore year, and then I missed most of my junior season and it slowed down. Right now the schools talking to me are Alma College, and Kalamazoo College. And I’m in contact with Ferris State every once in awhile, and that’s about it,” said Majerle, whose mom works at Alma.
“I’ve visited both Alma and Ferris. And Alma is at the top of my list right now for sure. Their coaching staff is awesome and their program fits me very, very well. I love the school too.”
He added: “They (Alma) have said they would like to have me on the team, but I’m not exactly sure what that counts for.”
The 6-foot senior takes pride in being a smart player with some court savvy, and says making the right play is his strength as a player.
“I consider myself a very fundamental point guard, I like to make the right plays and the right passes, and I don’t turn the ball over very often,” said Majerle. “I also put up a lot of 3s, that’s what I do.”
Majerle spent his 17U playing with Grand Rapids Storm, and though he got off to a slow start — still recovering from his injury — he says his he played his role well.
“As the spring and summer went on I got better and better and my confidence grew. I was mostly the shooter on our team, and I was the point guard. My role was to move the ball around, and make 3s,” said Majerle, who is now gearing up for his senior season with the Rams.
“Last year I missed about 90 percent of the season, this year I’m looking to come back and lead my team and show people what I couldn’t show them last year.”
