Good news: 6-foot-7 forward Jake Guse is better than ever.
And with a summer playing for Mitch Ohnstad and Select under his belt, Guse will be ready to make a big impact this winter.
“I felt like working with Mitch really helped me a lot,” Guse told NHR. “I improved on trying to get back faster on defense and trying to run the court; also my shot. And just trying to keep getting stronger to get boards.”
As a big man, he has schools telling him at lower divisions about the opportunity to play early, as opposed to waiting a little longer at the D2 level. Is playing early important?
“I would like to (play early),” Guse said, “but if it’s the right fit and I don’t get early playing time, I would be okay with that. Yes, a few would say that I would probably start early.”
Guse went on to detail his college interest.
“I have been to Minot State, and they have been interested,” Guse said. “I also have been talking to Sioux Falls a little and still most of the D3s from earlier when I talked with RJ. I haven’t really cut down on schools, I’ve just still been keeping my options open and have been thinking about making my decision after basketball season.”
Guse has been offered by Waldorf and Briar Cliff, and Morningside wants him to visit.
“I want kind of a medium-sized school, and as for location, I’m thinking around like 8-9 hours from home would be about the farthest I would want to go,” Guse added.
