“I enjoyed lots of things about AAU, and obviously the most memorable memories are with the people that I met,” Gavin told Prep Hoops Minnesota (NHR). “People like Coach Lewis who did so much for all of his players to make them succeed is something I’ll never forget, and all of the players that I played with or against.
“I thought AAU was a great way to meet new people, who also loved basketball. As a result we were successful all over the country against some of the top players because we were competitive, and loved to play. AAU made me a better basketball player because I learned to compete every game, and practice, and worked on new skills that you can’t always improve on during the HS season.”
Gavin is a football player for the Wayzata Trojans so he can’t be 100 percent committed daily in the gym but he will be working on his game as much as possible. Baumgartner returns with varsity regulars Ryan Lindberg, Jacob Beeninga, and Alex Jensen plus there are a number of quality JV guys ready to step in.
“Personally I am going to try to be there for my team as much as possible, but I will be playing football too,” Baumgartner said. “But I know our team will continue to get in the gym, lift weights and build chemistry, because we did lose a bunch of seniors.
“But I think we have a great group of guys who want to win, and want to get better. I think it will be a fun year. Last year our JV team played really well, and even though they didn’t play much varsity I think they will be more than ready to step in and do big things this year!”
Gavin is a top D2 prospect and he’s taken big steps towards making his decision.
“Right now it is Minnesota State-Moorhead, Saint Cloud State, and University of Sioux Falls I hear from the most,” said Gavin. “I have still been hearing from a few D1 programs, as they say I’m on their lists. Also St. Thomas is another school I have been talking to at the D3 level.”
“I have already visited all of the schools that I wanted to. I visited Bemidji State, USF, MS-Moorhead, and Saint Cloud State. And I am all done for now.”
Gavin averaged 10.7 points per game for the Trojans as a junior.
