He gave that to the Schoolers again this year and the team played their best basketball over the seven weekend season in their final event, the NY2LA Final Chapter.
“My top experience during AAU was probably the Las Vegas trip,” Cooper said. “We ended up 3-2, but we beat an Adidas team out of Chicago, and lost to a really good Las Vegas Prospects team (out of the EYBL).
“The whole AAU experience has turned me into a better player because of the competition we’ve faced. We played a lot of good teams this spring/summer, and I think we’ve all improved.”
Cooper and the Schoolers played in the SPTS (league includes a top five team from Wisconsin, the top team in Nebraska, five of the top ten teams in Minnesota, etc) and in the NY2LA League (most of the top non-shoe sponsored teams in the Midwest) and that experience proved valuable.
Now Cooper wants to put that experience to use as he hopes to push Vermillion to its maximum potential.
“Over the next four months I plan to keep working on my jumpshot, continue getting stronger, and as a team we’ve got to get tougher and keep working,” Cooper said.
Cooper is also starting to think about college basketball. There are teams at various levels in contact.
“I’ve been in contact with Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, University of Sioux Falls, Black Hills State, Wayne State, and the University of Mary,” Williams said.
When we talked to Cooper he had the following upcoming visits.
“I have already visited USF, and I’m going to Wayne State for elite camp on July 30,” Cooper said when we talked to him the day before. “I’ll also be up in Mitchell at DWU’s campus in the fall.”
