Continue ReadingHamilton Southeastern has put out quality players for quite a long time. Names like Gary Harris and Zak Irvin are the biggest to date. However, they have been a program that has developed prospects for all levels and in the class of 2017, they have quite a few in a senior-heavy squad.
One name that has really taken hold the last six months has been 6’1 guard Connor Rotterman. Connor got back healthy to start the AAU season and seemed to take off immediately. He came out this Spring and was on fire scoring from all levels and just a ton more assertive. His body had developed and filled out and he was ready to play.
Now, college programs are starting to get him on their radar. A couple weeks back, Rotterman went on a visit to one of the schools recruiting him the hardest, Saint Joseph (IN), for their Elite Camp. He was able to visit and get to know the program a little better.
“Went really well,” Rotterman said of the camp. “I played really well. I like the coaches a lot and talked to them quite a bit. After my first game, the head coach came up to me and told me to take a visit in the next comple of weeks. Some of the assistants asked me about my last tournament, the one we one, and that they saw me play up in Cincinnati where we almost be (Ohio Basketball Club). They said they really like what they see.”
Rotterman will head up to Saint Joseph (IN) again here on the 31st of this month for an unofficial visit. But, the Pumas will have competition as schools like Army, Navy, Maryville, Cornell, Brown, DePauw, Wabash, and Anderson are also showing interest in the HSE product.
This summer was a big one for his development and he took a hold of his game and really shined.
“I think I did well but I could have played a lot better,” Rotterman said. “I improved my shot off the dribble the most but sometimes I would Settle for a three off the dribble instead of attacking. I improved my ball handling. My defense has improved from last year and I love being the guy on their best player. Most importantly though, i need to work on being a very vocal leader on the court and being more of a floor general.”
Rotterman is self-aware enough and has made enough strides in the past few months to really see the upside and where his game is headed. More programs will likely come knocking but they will be added to this every growing list.
