Still just an underclassman at U of D-Jesuit, Dozier says some area high-major programs have expressed interest in him through his coaches, and he says he’s talked with his parents about what they will look for in a potential college program.
“I’ve been contacted by Michigan and Michigan State. They reached out to my coaches about me. And I received a letter from Arizona,” said Dozier.
“It’s (recruitment) not a big part of my basketball life right now. But I have talked to my parents about it, and where I want to go is going to be pretty much who wants me the most and the relationship that I have with the coaches and players at the school.”
The 5-foot-8 point guard has plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize and in the meantime is working to cement his legacy as a U of D Jesuit Cub.
“I just like to make everyone around me better, the intangibles that I have are a strength. And as a player I can create for my teammates, I can knock-down open shots and I can create for myself. And I’m a hard-nosed defender also, I like to guard all 94-feet,” said Dozier.
“I want to be more of a pure shooter, and to be able to play more off-the-ball sometimes as well as point guard. And I’ll need to work on my off-the-ball defense.”
This summer the savvy guard played with a supremely talented The Family 15U squad. He says he had to play more of a combo-guard than pure point guard.
“The guys that I played with was a great group of guys, we had a really good point guard and I had to play more off-the-ball then I had in the past, so that was kind of an adjustment,” he said. “But overall it was great, I liked the guys we played with, we had a lot of talent and the coaches were great.”
Now Dozier will turn his focus to his sophomore season with the Cubs, where he will look to be a leader this season.
“Last year I really came off the bench to give the team a spark. I provided for everyone else and was one of the leaders on the team,” said Dozier. “This year I’m going to have to play a bigger role, produce some more points, and basically just be a coach on the court.”
