The last year has been a whirlwind for former Purdue standout Ryne Smith but he’s back in the saddle for the chance to right the ship for a small rural program. Two years ago, Smith was at Clinton Prairie and had a very successful 15-9 season before he left to take over Anderson. However, last year can be a forgotten season with everything going on in Madison County. Now, he takes over a Benton Central program that has lacked success for the last decade. The Bison have only had 3 above .500 seasons since 2004-05.
Chris Benedict To Bluffton
Long time head coach Chris Benedict is on the move for only the fourth time since 1993 as he leaves Columbia City for the second time to take over Bluffton. Bluffton hasn’t had a ton of success but Benedict has with 18 season of .500 or better in the last 23 years along with 7 Sectional Championships, 3 Regional Championships, and a Semistate Championship. Bluffton has had winning records but has only gotten a Sectional Championship once since 2004-05.
Jason Delaney To Take Over Cathedral As Next Project
Not many have had the route of new Cathedral coach Jason Delaney. In his only season as Waldron’s head coach, he went 27-0 and won a State Title in 1A. He then took over Southport, Anderson Highland, and Indy Washington over the next 6 seasons where he went 54-78. Then, he took over a mediocre Arsenal Tech team right on the verge and went on for the next 5 season with some dominance in the city and walked away with a second State Title in 2013-14. Now, his next project is Cathedral. Former coach Andy Fagan walked away and left a program that has some players still left but also quite a few departures. This will be Delaney’s biggest and most profiled reclamation project.
Michael Shelton To Take Over Park Tudor
No season can compare to the one that Park Tudor and it’s players went through last season. However, they are looking to turn the page and see what new head coach Michael Shelton can bring to the table. The Jeffersonville, Indiana native and former coach at Williston Northhampton in Massachusetts is now back in the Hoosier state and looking to take over one of the better programs in the state. His first fix is to change the culture back to what it used to be before the events of the last 12 months. Then, he has to find a way to replace potential All-American Jaren Jackson Jr. Big tasks but he should be given some room to maneuver the first few seasons.
