Heading lining this 2020 group is, in alphabetical order, Xavier Dussell SG 6’2″ Mesquite (Team Bayless), Jason Harris Jason Harris 6'7" | PF Higley | 2020 State #242 Nation AZ PF/C 6’8″ Desert Ridge (AZ Power Prospects), and PG/SG 6’0″ Nico Mannion Pinnacle (Earl Watson Elite). Drussell brings length and athleticism as well as an ability to shoot the basketball from deep. His high basketball IQ despite being such a young prospect makes him an intriguing freshman who should be ready to make an impact at Mesquite High School. Harris is a long, athletic player who has a solid handle for his height and age. He has a nice mix of moves and is dangerous off the dribble and on the block. Last but not least, Mannion has the skills to not just be one of the top freshmen in the state, but to be one of the top guards in the entire state. He has great length, moves well, has a good handle as well as an array of moves, and an ability to shoot the basketball from deep as well as anyone.
In addition to the players who seem to standout compared to the rest, the state should be on the lookout for PG/SG 6’1″ Evan Nelson Evan Nelson 6'1" | PG Salpointe | 2020 State #184 Nation AZ Mountain View (Tucson). Nelson has many of the tools that NCAA Division-I coaches are looking for in a guard. He has good length and above average lateral quickness. With longer point guards being in high demand at the next level, Nelson could certainly see himself become a player who demands a lot of interest. His court vision and fluidity off the dribble are quite impressive.
The 2020 watch list will be posted tomorrow morning, August 11, 2016. The list will contain 30 incoming freshman, in alphabetical order, that the state should be on the lookout for.
