Crispus Attucks Could Go Far, Quickly
One of the bigger jobs for a first-year coach is that of Crispus Attucks and new head coach Chris Hawkins. It is a big job because of the potential in this upcoming season. Returning players like Nike Sibande and Teyon Scanlan and getting transfers Jamal Harris and Zac Owens back on the team is a heck of a start. Last season, with the ups and downs of their coaching situation, were able to make it to the Sectional Championship game before a loss to Brebeuf Jesuit. Now, both Brebeuf and Attucks look to be two of the favorites in 3A heading into the season.
Terre Haute South Gets New Look With Lewis
Former Purdue standout Maynard Lewis is taking over the job at Terre Haute South this season and much like the Attucks job, THS could be an instant winner with the talent they have. IUPUI commit Jaylen Minnett leads the way alongside DeAvion Washington. That backcourt combo is one of the best in the state and they should give Lewis a chance to impress quickly if the team doesn’t take long to gel together under new leadership. They should be the favorite in their Sectional but Regionals will be tough with competitors like Southport, Ben Davis, Lawrence North, North Central, and Mt. Vernon-Fortville.
Keith Dabney Takes Reigns At Arsenal Tech
In a little bit of a different storyline, former assistant under Jason Delaney, Keith Dabney, at Arsenal Tech is taking over the job now. Dabney will have his hands full as he tries to rebuild this program after most of the talent has graduated. It won’t be quite an empty cupboard but it won’t be easy in the toughest Sectional in the state. He should still have some expectations on him as he knows the system and the players. However, it might take a minute for this program to really get going again.
