They found success in spurts but was playing it’s best ball I saw this year towards the end. Mainly made up of guards, this group was able to play a little more up tempo. They had scoring threats like Jaden Terry, Xavion Washington, and others. Khiree Williams provided them some perimeter shooting, and Joshua Haubry and Darian Porch were the guys on the inside making plays. I liked how this team seemed to never quit competing. They weren’t in every single game but it was always a solid scouting opportunity because the effort seemed to be there.
Best Player: Darian Porch is the guy that I really liked from this group. The 6’5 forward is bouncy, strong, and a willing rebounder, some of the things that can get you noticed while not having to put up a ton of points. However, he does have offensive skills in his game and he showed more of them this summer. I liked how he was able to play a little bit further away from the rim and face-up on the defender. If he can continue to stretch that out while still giving respect to the rebounding aspect of his game, he should see a big jump in his interest.
Players To Watch: Xavion Washington is a player that I’ve been waiting to see more out of for a few years now. He was buried at Lawrence Central with that 2016 group of seniors and now with them gone, he should get a chance to play and impact the game. He has a lot of skill and a good 6’3 frame to go with it. Putting the whole package together and gaining confidence should be his goal this winter. A guy that could be worth a look come November.
