Guys like Max Raker, Erik Moenkhaus, and Kyle Wolf were players that I caught during the high school season and really wanted to catch again this summer. They impressed just as much and they weren’t the only ones on this team I liked. This group is built pretty balanced but shooting from beyond the arc is their main weapon. Moenkhaus leads in that regard. Overall, this was a group I enjoyed watching and one that small colleges should be on the lookout for come next spring with a lot of players in the mix for offers.
Best Player: Max Raker isn’t the tallest guy but he seems to play like a kid you need to have on your team. He’s tough and full of energy and his ability to make plays off the bounce, especially in the lane, is something that really stands out. Decent jump shooter from the perimeter but really likes to attack the paint. Can throw a solid mid-range pull-up in there as well. A guy who isn’t going to blow you away from the first look but can differentiate himself from other sub-6’ guards in the class.
Players To Watch: The one guy I really want to watch more this winter is Greenwood’s Eric Moenkhaus. He’s probably about 6’2 right now but he’s growing. Along with that, he is one of the more free-firing shooters the state has. He makes a pretty good percentage but he has the confidence that every shot he takes is going in and isn’t afraid to let it fly. He will have to continue to refine the shot and technique but he can become a pretty good weapon with an above average skill.
