They had a lot of success and it was built around their big, skilled forwards along with their lineup of talent to the last guy on the bench. This team was also one of the more seen groups because all of the players on this team fit into a small range of talent allowing coaches to get multiple looks at a lot of players without having to watch one player on one team at a time. With size always at a premium, having multiple players above 6’6 was really helpful for this club and their coach seemed to get a lot of effort out of his guys.
Best Player: The guy that drew the most attention, and rightfully so, was Oldenburg Academy’s Ben Kinker. The 6’7 forward was really good while still being intriguing. He’s a skilled post player that can face-up most of the time and is really mobile. He could get a little taller still but once he fills out and because a little more aggressive, his game should really start blossoming. He picked up a ton of offers this summer coming from top NAIA and regional DII programs. He still has room to grow before he graduates.
Players To Watch: The one player to really watch for this fall and winter is Broad Ripple’s Sam Colbert. The 5’11 lead guard is a crafty kid with a ton of upside. He plays quick, has length, and loves to play with energy. Using that, he could become of the better defenders in the state. Offense takes a back seat although he can score the ball. He focuses on the team first and playing defense which is what coaches want to see out of their point guards.
