2017 -Strengths-
Well-Balanced
Although Saben Lee and Alex Barcello are the only two Point Guards in this class with high major NCAA Division-1 offers, the 2017 class has a number of point guards who hold NCAA Division-1 offers like Holland Woods, Dre Marin, Marcus Shaver, and Colten Kresl. Moreover, there are a number of candidates who are capable of playing High level NCAA Division-2 and NAIA Division-1. Some of these candidates include Elijah Mead, Max Moses, Treyvon McCray, and Cody Carmichael. There is also a number of point guards who will have the potential to play mid to low D2 as well as D3.
High IQ
Collectively, the 2017 group has a very high basketball IQ. The high caliber point guards are not freak athlete guards who are getting scholarships due to their potential. Rather, they all have the ability to dictate the tempo of the game, and they make great decisions with the basketball. Further more, guards like Tre Mitchell, Mikey Silva, and teammates Cole Rother and Dominic Ciccaglione all have a great feel for this game which will help them play at the next level.
Shooters
Often times, point guards in Arizona get bad wrap. They are considered good athletes who are drive first and shoot from deep never. However, 2017 is extremely different as there are an array of players who are capable of casting it from deep at an extremely high rate. In addition to the aforementioned players, some of the best shooters in the state include Mason Stark, Nate Gorsuch, and Connor Frith.
2017 -Weaknesses-
Strength
Many of these guards are talented players offensively as they have solid handles, good shooting abilities, and are capable of getting into the paint at any point in time. However, they will have a difficult time transitioning to the much more physical college ranks without some time in the weight room. They have the skill set but need to add to their overall games to reach their peak and be able to fully adjust to the faster and stronger game.
Size
Most of these guards are unable to play a combo guard position due to their heights and physical skill sets. As stated earlier this 2017 class is extremely talented and many of them have the ability to play at a high level at the next level. However, many college coaches are starting to favor lengthy, aggressive guards rather than the game manager. This also limits how some of the players can be used defensively.
