Over 50 different division one schools and numerous other programs were on hand to take in the action. Let’s take a look at some of the players in the class of 2017 who stood out from Virginia.
Jalen Ray – 6’1’’ PG – Team Loaded 757 – Hampton
Ray has enjoyed a terrific AAU campaign this spring/summer. The lefty out of Hampton, VA is sharpshooter and can score from all three levels. He did a good job of getting to his spots, changing speeds and displayed a nice pull-up game. Ray is a sneaky athlete who finished well in transition. After averaging over 18 points per game at the event, he pulled offers from NJIT and Hofstra.
Cam Henry – 6’5’’ PG – River City Reign – LC Bird
Henry had a breakout weekend for River City Reign. The rising senior at LC Bird has taken a huge jump since a loss in the state title game. He is long and very skilled. Henry showed he is a true point guard, working ball screens, handling pressure and making the right play with the ball in his hands. He made open shots and proved he can guard multiple positions with his length and versatility.
Alden Parham – 6’2’’ PG – River City Reign Parham – Monacan
Last season’s 4A State Player of the Year put on a show in a first round matchup with Team Loaded NC. The lanky floor general poured in 31 points on an array of crafty moves and finishes. He did a great job of getting paint touches and hitting floaters over Loaded NC’s bigs. Parham plays with a nice pace and sees the floor well.
Greg Jones – 6’6’’ PF – Team Loaded VA – John Marshall
Jones is a big time competitor. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, is vocal and takes no plays off. He rebounded like an angry man, cleaning up misses for offensive put backs and finishing possessions defensively by pulling down big boards. Jones hit open threes, guarded multiple positions and set the tone for Team Loaded VA. He’s enjoyed a big summer, receiving another offer from Marshall during the event, his third in less than two weeks.
Brandon Mitchell – 6’6’’ PF – Team Loaded Astrop – Salem (Virginia Beach)
Mitchell is intriguing. He is a long, lanky 6’6’’ forward who plays with a high motor. Mitchell was relentless on the glass, ran the floor well and protected the rim. We have seen some development in his skill set as he showed he could face up and finish around the rim.
Tim Fisher – 6’5 F – Team 22 Black – Mills Godwin
Fisher really stood out for Team 22 Black, which had a really good weekend, advancing to the final four. He is very active, rebounded well, defended and finished around the basket. Fisher is a strong, bouncy forward with good hands and good instincts. He will be interesting to follow throughout the summer and school year.
Cam Bacote – 6’3’’ CG – Team Loaded VA – Bethel
Bacote plays his role so well for such a talented Team Loaded squad. He constantly makes good decisions, hits big shots and straps up defensively. He can play on or off the ball and has a great understanding of the game.
