IUPUI is the latest school to give the 6’4 wing an offer. Walter is the son of NBA standout, LaPhonso Ellis, and he is starting to become a player in his own right.
“Blessed to receive another one,” Ellis said. “Very much appreciate Coach Gardner for the offer. I don’t know a lot about (IUPUI). I’m still new to most of Indiana because I haven’t lived here my whole life. I’ve heard they have a very nice campus, a fast paced playing style, and most importantly great academics which sounds very appealing.”
Walter has been on the verge of a big summer and he notes a successful month of June as a possible catalyst for his play.
“I was definitely pleased with my performance in June. I feel like I took another step playing with (South Bend) Adams. I felt like I was able to score when I need to and become more of a leader in that way but also was still very unselfish and tried to make the right play as necessary.”
Ellis also made a switch with his AAU programs as well. He played this Spring with a loaded Spiece Indy Heat team but in July he is on Team Harris and looking to make some moves.
“As for July, the first weekend with Team Harris went pretty well. With playing for a different team, I still have some getting used to get through but my experiences with them have been great.”
Walter already holds one offer. Valparaiso was the first to reach out and offer and now so has IUPUI. Xavier, Dayton, Indiana State, Ball State, Kent State, Northern Kentucky, Detroit, Western Illinois, Ferris State, Saint Francis, and Holy Cross are the latest schools to show interest in the 6’4 wing.
