Continue ReadingAt 6’8” Curie power forward Tyree Martin is really starting to emerge in the 2018 class. The Curie four man is a force on both ends of the floor. First and foremost he is an outstanding offensive rebounder. He hits the glass with an explosive second jump recording multiple put backs in every game. Very active on the offensive end with his high motor and energy. Not a real back to the basket scorer yet, but gets his points running the floor, on offensive rebounds, and quick dunks. Defensively is a major presence swatting shots. Uses length and bounce to change the game. He should be looked at by low and mid-major schools already.
Martin played a role in the state title team as a sophomore at Curie.
“It was a good season winning state. This year I was working on getting better from last year because last year I didn’t really get in much. It was a big transition. I was working on continuing get better. It is going to be the same thing this year with Devin (Gage) graduating someone has to step up. Me and my brother are trying to fill in that scoring.”
He is playing with Team Rose 16U this spring.
“It has been going real good. On the Gauntlet series we have been doing well. We did ok in Atlanta, but really good in Texas. I think I am playing a lot harder than I used to play. I think I play with a lot more energy. That is what the coaches need from me.”
The four man chatted with us about his game.
“My strengths are rebounding, defending, and shooting the perimeter shot.”
DePaul, Iowa State, Cal Poly, San Francisco, and SMU have been in contact with his high school coach and coaches with Team Rose keeping tabs on Martin.
