“Yeah, it’s a lot of fun to play with Nathan Rund,” Monke said. Rund averaged 19.3 PPG during the 2015 State Tournament while Monke provided 14.7. “He’s pretty skilled. Last year I was mainly the team’s rebounder and defender, along with scoring when I get the chance. Just doing whatever I had to do.”
The 6-foot-5 forward has heard from Concordia-Moorhead, St. John’s (MN), St. Scholastica after a good spring/summer campaign with the Minnesota Comets, and he has visited both Concordia and Northern State’s campuses.
“I’m still working on figuring out my college search,” Monke said. “I really want to go into math and engineering, so they have to have that. I want to stay relatively close to home… in the Midwest, at least.”
Monke is working the most on improving his strength and outside shooting, and he says he spends a lot of time in the school weight room.
“Matt’s length and shooting make him very recruitable and another versatile piece in our lineup,” Comets coach Chris Lewis said of Monke.
