And after the Pittsburgh Jam Fest earlier this offseason, several prestigious Division III schools from all over the Midwest and Northeast started calling.
“It’s mostly smaller schools recruiting me. And after we played in Pittsburgh earlier this offseason, I got like 10 calls after that. Right now the schools that are recruiting me the most are Oberlin, Carnegie Mellon, Kalamazoo, Hamilton, and I’ve recently gotten called from Emerson, Hope, and some from Colby College,” said Rowley.
“I took a visit to Hope, I visited Oberlin, I visited Wheaton and then I visited Albion awhile ago.”
He added: “I definitely want to go to a high academic school. I want to go somewhere where I know after my four years of college I can be successful. And as of right now my top choices would be Oberlin, Carnegie Mellon, Hope, and I also like Emory a lot. ”
Rowley is a guy that played most of his career in the post, mostly because he was the biggest guy on his teams. But he’s worked hard to develop into a perimeter threat as well, making him one of 2017’s more versatile threats.
“My skill-set is kind of between a post player and a wing. I’m the tallest kid on my high school so I was kind of stuck in the post for a little while,” said Rowley. “But then I knew I had to start working on my guard skills. So if a guy a little bit bigger than me is guarding me I’m usually a little bit quicker and can drive past him. If a smaller guy is on me I definitely feel comfortable playing in the post.”
This summer he’s been playing with Common Bond 17U, and he’s been encouraged to play more of a small forward role with that team.
“There’s a couple guys on our team who are a little bigger than me, so I play in the post sometimes. But my coach definitely encourages me to play on the perimeter and to handle the ball and shoot 3s,” said Rowley, who mentioned he’d like to have an idea of where he’ll play his college ball sometime soon.
“I definitely want to narrow it down by my senior season – and have some schools in my top choices, and take some official visits and stuff like that.”
