Continue ReadingMt. Carmel 2017 power forward Justin Carpenter is without a doubt the biggest value on the board in the state’s rising senior class of post players. At 6’7” the southern Illinois big man is supremely skilled with the ability to play with his back to the basket where he finishes at a high percentage. Has face up ability in the pick and pop game. Runs the floor tremendously well. Can even handle it a little on occasion. Showed that with Pocket City this summer.
“Right now I am really focused on the post. I am trying to get stronger and work on my free throws. Trying to get my bounce because I lost some of that in June.”
His Mt. Carmel team should be a force in small school ball down south this year.
“We are looking really well. We went 26-7 for the month. We felt we are really growing as a team.”
Things have been going well on the recruiting trail for Carpenter as of late.
“It has really picked up for me and I am enjoying every minute of it. I got a lot more schools looking at me.”
North Dakota, Eastern Illinois, SEMO, Western Illinois, Lewis, Emporia State, Albany, Southern Indiana, and Bellarmine have all extended offers to the southern Illinois post. Does he have a timeline for a decision?
“I really want to wait until after the season so I have time to think about it.”
