Earlier this week, Brewer picked up his first, of what could be many, offers. Saint Joseph’s, a DII program from Rensselaer, Indiana, was the first to offer the 6’5 wing.
“Blessed,” Brewer said of the offer. “Don’t know much about it but should be going to check it out here soon. Talked to the coach and he really liked me and I like their style of play with the run-n-gun.”
Head coach Tom Church was the first to pull the trigger and take a chance on Brewer. In turn, it has opened up some relief for Josh as he now has at least one option for college.
“Feels like a lot of stress has been lifted,” Brewer said. “Don’t have so much to worry about. Now that I have one it is just motivation. Also shows me that my work isn’t going unnoticed and will only make me strive for more.”
UW-Milwaukee, Kent State, IUPUI, Ball State are some of the other programs that have been showing interest. He has plenty of talent and is deserving of DI looks. Josh is an athletic wing with the ability to shoot and score and will get a chance to showcase more of that in the high school season. This year for AAU, he learned to take his role on the team and run with it.
“I feel like I had a hard time from adjusting at first from being the leading scorer and rebounder for my team to being an energy guy but as the season progressed I feel like I got better and embraced my role on the team playing with a team full of scorers and I ended up playing well toward the end of the year.”
Things are still quite a ways from being done on the recruiting front for Josh Brewer. He has plenty of room to grow before next May and plenty of chances for his recruiting to grow. Now, with one offer in hand, being a little less stressed could give him a boost this Fall and Winter.
