However, Lapel (IN) wing Jon Ross Richardson was able to take a quick stop into Rollins College on Sunday and pick up an offer from the DII program.
Richardson, a 6’7 wing, was already down in Florida as his Indiana Elite Magic 2017 program was playing in AAU Nationals. He took a quick trip across Orlando to check in with Rollins.
“Yes I did, it was a really nice campus and facilities,” Richardson said of his visit.
Rollins College has done a lot of work in the Hoosier state in the past. They currently have Sam Philpott (Noblesville) and Christian Munson (Guerin Catholic) on their roster for next season. Head coach Tom Klusman knows Indiana and he’s seen enough of Richardson to try and make him a part of the team too.
“Coach Klusman told me that I fit with what he is trying to do in his program,” Jon Ross said of Rollins. “A lot of zone, where they need tall and long arms. Also that I am versatile, that I can dribble, shoot, and also guard.”
Following a State Championship with Lapel, Richardson’s stock was already high but it continued to grow this AAU season as he ran with Indiana Elite Magic.
“It went really well,” Richardson said. “We won four tournaments in the Spring and made some good statements in other tournaments this July. We worked as a team and we really played well together. Frank Kendrick is also a really great coach and with what he was wanting me to do in the games really helped me in getting that offer.”
Outside of Rollins College, Jon Ross has been getting quite a bit of interest from non-DI programs including University of Indianapolis, Anderson, Rose-Hulman, Maine Maritime, and DePauw. With the end of July, things could start ramping up soon.
