The first time we heard about Dereon Seabron he was torching kids for 30 point games in JV at Norcom. He intrigued us enough with his length and ball handling skills to earn a Top 50 ranking before he played a varsity game.
After transferring to Lake Taylor his sophomore season where he was a key part of Lake Taylor’s run to the 4A State Championship where they fell just short against Monacan, but Seabron wasn’t as consistently dominant on offense as we expected. His team was full of young wings and guards in a balanced attack, and Seabron showed enough flashes that he remained high on our radar coming into AAU season.
With a full season against higher level competition under his belt, it seems to be clicking with him now, as he’s more adept to the speed and physicality of the game now. He’s grown to a legit 6’5”, has incredibly long arms, and he’s starting to learn how to dictate and score the ball at his own pace. College coaches have noticed him blossom this summer with Team Loaded 757 well, as he’s picked up his first two offers from Hampton and Mount St. Mary’s, with a number of schools showing high interest moving forward such as Arkansas State, Radford, Virginia Tech and Charleston Southern.
At Hoop Group Elite 2, Seabron continued to boost his stock in front of a number of coaches who liked his size, length and ability to get in the lane and make plays for either himself or his teammates.
“It’s good competition out here, a lot of college coaches and just trying to get some exposure and get better,” Seabron said.
While he’s starting to put it together, Seabron knows that coaches have certain things they want him to improve on that he’s taking very seriously this summer.
“I know I need to improve the consistency of my shooting, and I need to rebound more because coaches say I need to play more like I’m 6’5”,” Seabron said.
As for now, Seabron says he’s ready to finish what they got so close to doing last year, and that’s winning the state championship. If he can be a leader and go to guy for Lake Taylor next season, he could see a lot more than just the two offers he has right now.
