Richard Pitino was at the Peach Jam Wednesday and Thursday along with assistant coach Ben Johnson and between his near double-doubles in a couple games and the outstanding play from Oturo two weeks ago at Gopher Team Camp an offer to the Woodbury, Minnesota native came.
“It means a lot to be offered by your home state,” said Oturo this afternoon. “My thought on the program is that I like it there and I just want build a relationship with the coaches. I think highly of the coaches there. I would like to visit there and see how much I’d like it there.”
Oturo is playing with the 34-5 Howard Pulley Panthers and he kicked off his weekend with ten points and nine boards in a win over the Las Vegas Prospects. The Peach Jam has been a fantastic experience thus far for Oturo.
“It’s been great, we’re starting out on the right note and just want to continue to keep winning,” said Oturo. “The year has went well with my AAU team. We were undefeated threw 3 Sessions on the Nike Eybl circuit.
“We lost two games at Session four but were more than ready to keep working hard towards the Peach Jam. This spring helped me a lot because I played against some top level competition and it’s just helped me grow as a player. Learning different skills to add to my game.”
Oturo was offered by Northern Iowa earlier in the summer and he’s heard from several programs including many in the Big Ten.
“I’m going to be visiting Northern Iowa. And I’m also going to set up a visit to the University of Minnesota. But I’ve been hearing from good schools, I’ve talked to Wisconsin recently and the University of Iowa has been in contact.”
A few weeks ago when calls could be made to 2018 talents Daniel heard from a huge list of schools. Many of those schools have been watching Oturo and the Pulley Panthers at the Peach Jam.
“I head from Iowa, Texas, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Drake, Northern Iowa, Creighton, Memphis and Northwestern on the first day they could call.”
Oturo averaged 16.8 points, 14.6 rebounds, and 5.8 blocks for a top ten team in Minnesota’s biggest class of basketball as a sophomore last winter.
