Continue ReadingDeer Valley High School’s Bryce Davis (Class of 2018) garnered some attention during basketball season not only within the Arizona basketball community, but from college coaches as well. In March, we had the chance to catch up with him and get insight into his summer plans. We recently caught back up with the 6’7” forward and got an update.
After a strong month of June with his high school team and a solid AAU season with the Compton Magic thus far, Davis has been able to add Nebraska and San Jose State to the schools that have shown interest. They join Portland State, Grand Canyon University, and Eastern Washington. Skilled on the block with moves and counters going either direction, Davis is looking to become a better all around player in the hopes of playing on the wing at the next level. One of his major improvements from last season to this upcoming season should be his playmaking ability. An already solid passer from the post, Bryce has been working to improve his ball handling, his court vision, and his basketball IQ.
Another big change for the upcoming Junior will be his role. With such a young returning squad, he said he has taken the responsibility of being the mediator between the coach and the players, while also helping bring some of the younger players up to speed. This maturity should bode well for him moving forward.
Being the son of two former collegiate basketball players, Bryce Davis has a good base to look to for advice moving forward. When asked what he looks for in a college program, he answered “A coach that believes in me and will push me and teach me. I want to play with players that work hard so that everybody is getting better”.
This is something that he has had the chance to experience with the Compton Magic. Davis sees the main difference in the highly sought after players being “Their mindset. Everyone there believes in what they can do and they play with confidence and just make plays”.
We look forward to following Bryce as he continues to make strides. He should have a solid Junior campaign and garner more interest from college programs. Davis has developed into a high division 2/ low division 1 prospect, but his ceiling is high.

Sum yourself up in one sentence: “I’m a person that believes in myself and is always going to push myself to be as good of a player as possible.”
