Elliott’s last name might ring a bell as he is the nephew of former Arizona Wildcat & NBA Champion with the San Antonio Spurs, Sean Elliott. Lucas is 6’8, with a 7’1 wingspan with some more room to grow. He recently was able to spend time on the campus at Arizona but look for his recruiting interest to begin to pick up after a great July!
We were lucky to get a chance to interview Lucas in giving him a spotlight to answer some questions we asked him.
Q: How was summer league with your high school?
A: It was amazing. Our team had a great time playing against harder teams that we wouldn’t normally play in the season, because we’re a smaller school. This gave us an experience to grow and gave us a platform to try new things. It was also a chance to hang out with my teammates.
Q: What is your outlook for the month of July?
A: I just want to play to compete to the best of my ability. I am hoping for our AZ Power Tucson teams to just compete at our highest levels.
Q: What events will you be playing in?
A: Double Pump Summer Tip-off in Anaheim, California (July 6-10).
West Coast Elite Summer Classic in Irvine, California (July 13-15)
Bigfoot Hoops Las Vegas Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada (July 20-24)
Q: Have you heard from any schools yet?
A: A few schools Pac 12, WAC, and Big Sky schools have contacted Coach Thomas but my focus right now is really just about improving and helping my teams compete in games.
Q: What are you looking for in a school?
A: I’m looking for a school that is committed to providing a quality education, while still offering me a way to grow in basketball.
Q: Interest of study?
A: I’m only a sophomore in high school so as of right now, I haven’t determined my course of study. I am still exploring my options and just enjoying my time.
Q: What are your strengths?
A: I’m lucky to be tall; that definitely helps with basketball! I work hard at what I do and I am coachable. I am able to take constructive criticism.
Q: What do you need to improve on?
A: I need to be more consistent, continue to get tougher on the court, and be a better student of the game but trust me, I’m working on it!
Q: What is it like having an NBA champion as an uncle? What advice has he given you?
A: Growing up with an NBA champion as an uncle is pretty cool. He retired shortly after I was born, so I didn’t get to see him play. He has always been Uncle Sean to me, despite the constant reminder of his legendary status. When I see him though, I don’t immediately think “I’m going to see my famous uncle!” Instead, I see him as the comical family member he is. If my uncle wants me to know anything, it is to enjoy the game. He asks me if I’m having fun, and he says when that is achieved, you gain a passion for the game.
